It was hectic which was fine and exciting, some times. My role was mainly to keep everyone in my group organised which I took pretty much in my stride. My way of coping with the stress and constant chatter, computer rays, wires and madness was to put plants on my desk and bring in the essential oils (mainly lavender and ylang ylang) which I used to waft around from time to time to combat the negative ions in the atmosphere.

I’ve always found organic and chemical free products lovely and that’s why I compliment my time as a VA with being a consultant for Neal’s Yard Remedies. I’m learning lots about the remedies and I enjoy meeting people at parties/toddler groups and spreading the word about these wonderful natural products. I’ve an online shop too www.uk.nyrorganic.com/shop/sabi

One of my favourite concoctions is the Wild Rose Beauty Balm. This can be found alongside my laptop everyday. When I’m having frustrations with WordPress or can’t seem to get a grip with all the Facebook updates or find the right word for a Spanish translation, I open the pot, inhale the aroma and use the balm and then get back to the screen. Refreshed.

What do you do when you get frustrated with IT or need to take a break away from the screen?

I organised a networking meeting a couple of weeks ago for busy Mums. Children were welcome but not compulsory. There were activities, such as colouring, gingerbread decorating and toys for the little ones and they beavered away in the background, while us ladies got down to promoting our business, for MOST of the time.

The ladies were very patient during the meeting even when the children decided to interrupt us at the ‘wrong’ moments, like heckling the guest speaker and asking to go to the toilet at the most delicate of moments. Going forward, I’d like to be even more prepared for the children so that mums can relax/switch off and concentrate knowing that the children are being looked after. I’m looking for a childrens’ entertainer, perhaps a storyteller, wizard, puppeteer, creative person who enjoys dealing with children to attend the meeting and do just that.

Do you know anyone that has these special skills and who can help out once a month?

Are you a mum in business? Are you a mum thinking about starting a business around a young family? Why not join us once a month. The next meeting will be on Thursday 18th August at 10am at Wilder St Studios. For more information give me a call on 07411 059 450.

From where do you work? What’s your most favorite working environment? I’d like to live and work from somewhere quite untraditional like a barge, lighthouse or even an oil rig, now that would be an interesting challenge. As I have the Spanish Bug, I like the idea of living in a cave una cueva in the Andalucian countryside of southern Spain. These caves have been in existence for decades, Spanish families would take to ‘self build’ in an attempt to find a more economic solution to traditional housing.

These caves are fascinating, they are like warrens inside with very high ceilings and thick walls. They are cool in the summer and easy to heat in the cooler months. I also am told that they are so very quiet, so quiet in fact that you can actually hear the sound of silence (how wonderful) and of course, it’s absolutely pitch black when the lights go out. I couldn’t imagine a more fabulous place to work in as a virtual assistant: a perfect base of peace and tranquility from which to work on projects and assist others ….and as long as I could have excellent internet connection it would be a damn site more chilled out than living on an oil rig!

Perhaps you’re actually living/working from a cave….or an oil rig? I’d love to hear about it and know what it’s really like.
